Inclusion Groups

Inclusion groups are a frequency management tool for assigning specific frequencies or frequency ranges to specified channels and backup frequencies. Once an inclusion group is assigned to a channel, the frequency calculator will only select from frequencies defined within the group.

Inclusion groups can contain the following:
  • Individual frequencies
  • Frequency ranges

One or more groups are contained in a list, and are arranged by coordination priority. This priority informs the calculator of the order in which to calculate frequencies. Groups higher on the list will have a higher priority than those below.

Create an Inclusion List

  1. Select the Spectrum tab and then click on the gear icon next to Inclusions.
  2. Select the check box to account for inclusions when calculating frequencies.
  3. Choose Manage.
  4. Select + or choose an existing list to edit. Double-click to edit a name.

Create an Inclusion Group

  1. In the Inclusions List window, select an existing list or create a new one.
  2. Select + under the Groups table or choose an existing group to edit. Double-click to edit a name.
Note: You can assign a color to an inclusion group, which will display as a range on the plot view if inclusion groups are being displayed.
  3. Select + under the Entries table to add a frequency or range entry.
  4. Enter a specific frequency or a frequency range. For a range, enter the start and stop values to be included in the group.
Tip: Use the TV channel selector to select a range entry with the bounds of a TV channel (assigned by country). Note that this range will not be adjusted if the TV format changes.
Tip: To import a list of single frequencies, select the gear icon and choose Import Frequencies from File. In order to import frequencies from a file, that file must be specifically formatted. Create a .txt or .csv file with frequencies separated by either a space, tab, new line, or semicolon. Erroneous entries will be ignored.
  5. Select Save to save changes.
Tip: The order of the inclusion groups in the list in this dialog dictates their priority in the coordination order; channels in the first inclusion group will be coordinated for first, followed by the second group, and so on.

Assigning an Inclusion Group to a Channel

  1. Select Inclusions from the Frequency Coordination tab.
  2. Select the check box to account for inclusions when calculating frequencies.
  3. From the Inclusions List section, ensure that the desired list is selected and press Save.
CAUTION: When changing the selected inclusions list, all existing inclusion group assignments to channels and backup frequencies will be removed.
  4. In the inventory, choose the channel you'd like to assign the inclusion group to. Double-click in the Inclusion Group column to assign an inclusion group to that channel or backup frequency.
  5. Repeat this process for all desired channels.
Note: You can also add frequencies in the coordination workspace, and select the desired inclusion group when adding them from the dropdown. Also, frequency groups can be added to existing inclusion groups in the coordination workspace by right-clicking on the Frequency Group header, and selecting Move to Inclusion Group.
Tip: Channels without an inclusion group assignment will be coordinated after all channels with an inclusion group assignment. They will be placed in any available spectrum, which may include spectrum already allocated to another inclusion group.

Calculate Frequencies for Channels with Inclusion Groups

  1. Navigate to the Frequency Coordination tab. In the Add Frequencies tab, choose Select Frequencies from Inventory to bring in your frequencies, and select Calculate.
  2. The results of the calculation are shown in the coordination workspace, separated by inclusion group when applicable.
Note: The order of inclusion groups as presented in this dialog directly reflects the coordination order used by the calculator (highest to lowest priority from top to bottom). After deployment, channels are organized by inclusion group.
Tip: You can customize the coordination order by dragging and dropping frequency groups in the coordination workspace. The Coordination Order button (A list with a green check in front) will indicate whether the frequency groups are in the default order or a custom one. While in a custom order, frequency groups may not be in the specified order of inclusion group priority. Clicking the coordination order button will reset the order back to default (as specified in Preferences > Coordination > Coordination Order).
CAUTION: If you are using inclusion groups with an AXT600 Spectrum Manager, be aware that your inclusion groups may not appear in the frequency list for that device. If you view the frequency list in Wireless Workbench while the inclusions list containing those inclusion groups is not loaded, the Inclusion Group field for frequencies within that frequency list will show the value "Unresolved Group". Once the original inclusions list is loaded, the inclusion group names will be populated.
